If you lived or hiked in Vermont or Maine, you would fully appreciate this strip. Mosquito DEET repellants don’t work, and (unlike mosquito bites) black fly bites don’t go away if left unscratched. I use a waist-length netting when hiking in July -or stay at home. “Old Woodsman” repellant allegedly keeps black flies away, but it also repels people within 30 paces.

In my part of the world, it’s canker worms hanging down from trees every spring, followed by mosquitoes every summer.
