But wait a minute ONLY pays $169,300 a year? This would be a meaning of the word ‘only’ with which I was not previously acquainted. :o

“Only” works just fine in the immediate context of “you’ve become a millionaire.”

But your point is taken. That’s quite a few YEARS worth of pay for me.

These meager six-figure incomes for the elected servants of the people is what’s forcing these poor guys to resort to crime.

When this country started, elected officials didn’t get paid at all. They did it out of love for their country, not for money or power.

Make those greedy thugs paying us for our financial budgets.

I’m grazer had his tongue firmly planeted in his cheek but when the averege House race, to be truly competitive costs close to a 3/4 of a million per candidate the need to raise that kind of cash brings out the worst habits. Fortunately out of 535 in congress we only hear about a few of the worst apples.

I don’t object to the pay. They have to maintain two residences, and travel back and forth, etc. etc. Those who aren’t already well-off seem to be just getting by. The pay-off is after you leave office and become a lobbyist.
