Actually, my sister used to work in a call center once and had a caller that was continually berating and insulting her in French during the call, thinking that my sister wouldn’t catch on. Actually, my sister speaks fluent French and just went politely through the call, but finished up with the standard little blurb of “Thank you for calling and choosing company xyz…” etc, in French. After a few moments of dead air, the lady just hung up in embarassment.

Surely they don’t teach such things.
Judging from the level of ineptitude displayed by call center employees who have called me in the past, I believe that skill is innate.
