Actually, Spielberg wanted M&Ms but Mars took a pass … Hershey’s was a little more far-sighted.

Oh, yeah! “E.T. the Extra-Terrestral”! That’s where Dean got his reference! I need to see that again sometime.

M&M’s? Wouldn’t they melt under the stage lights? Oh, Reese’s Pieces would too. Why couldn’t it be Skittles?

Aliens don’t like tasting the rainbow.

Other geniuses: 74 people passed on Dr. Suess, 29 people told JK Rowling her idea about a boy wizard wasn’t good, and one guy once upon a time asked two young men named Joe and Jerry, who would want to read a comic about a super man. Plus that guy who allegedly told the Beatles to take a hike. Then there was that idiot at ABC who nixed the pilot for a show called 3rd Rock From The Sun.

“Corner Gas” was pitched to CBC first, but they turned it down. I wonder how much CTV ended up making off of it!

Their loss is somebody else’s profit. Bet they were slapping themselves when they saw the results.
