purpledog, that line’s always seemed a bit disingenuous to me. If you watch a Fred and Ginger routine, and then watch Fred solo, you’ll see that he was capable of far more when he didn’t have to worry about someone else keeping up.
(This isn’t a statement about men vs women as dancers in general, just a recognition of just how freakin’ GOOD Astaire really was…)

Ha ha, you’ll notice the good Captain feels no such compunction to represent the male gender in any kind of positive light …

I always hated how if female characters do anything wrong it’s somehow a negative reflection on women, whereas when male characters do something wrong it’s good writing.
