Whatever anyone feels about Vick, the fact remains that animal cruelty is still just a misdemeanor and he went to prison for felonies. Those were in regards to the gambling ring, not for being cruel to the animals. His actions were reprehensible to be sure, but from the day he was suspended from the NFL the clock was ticking till his return. Being a reprehensible person does not exclude you from being able to make a living….insert photo of Senetor Al Franken here.
Here is one question that this exchange brings up. If you get convicted and do your time have you paid your debt to society? From some of the posts here, you are tainted for life.
gladius, in general, I believe you’ve paid your debt to society when one has served the sentence/requirements handed down by law.
I don’t care at all whether Vick returns to pro ball or not, since I’m not a big sports fan. I just believe people who abuse helpless beings, including animals, are very sick.
If you don’t give people a second chance you might as well keep them in jail. Attitudes of that nature are one of the factors that keep the recidivism rate high. People complain about the large prison population but often would not offer a job to a former inmate or be willing to work next to one.

Has anyone heard of Pete Rose? What is good for one is good for another.
