We all need to remember that insurance companies are in business to maximize profits - it has absolutely nothing to do with helping people regardless of the smarmy TV ads we see constantly. They are businesses, like oil companies or Walmart. They will fight tooth and nail against anything that will affect their bottom line even if it is something that would help the consumer, just as any other business would do. There are NO Mother Teresas in the corporate world.
A business that relies on people to buy their stuff would do best to keep those people alive. Insuring them and paying for things they need done best does that.
