I don’t think parents should punish their kids by not giving them dinner. They need to eat and making them go hungry is not right. Putting him in his room for the rest of the day is good, but make sure he has no entertainment. Otherwise it’s not much of a punishment.
Whatever you do you have to carry it through. My one kid didn’t and now they have some more serious problems and a lot older kid. Not a happy situation.
My parents were unusual in that they made it plain beforehand that whatever one of them decided we would get by way of correction, the other would back them up. There was no reprieve.
If we needed to be corrected immediately for acting out (aggressively swatting someone or such)then we were spanked then and there–with hand only, on clothed butt. If it was more serious, we were grounded and it was a mutual decision by them for how long and how strictly. I think I might have been spanked 3 or 4 times in my life and grounded once. Not too bad a method, to my thinking.
Macushlalondra it has been PROVEN that a child missing ONE MEAL isn’t going to harm or hurt them, but it DOES teach them to eat what they are given. My mom would make a lavish meal, and if I misbehaved, I’d be stuck with two slices of bread with peanut butter, glass of water and an apple, while company had salad, entree, dessert and coffee then watched a movie etc …
Macush, in original timeframe Michael would likely have only books (mostly texts) and some notes for entertainment–not moron-box, video games, …; so that part of the punishment was effective.

I agreed, too! Or use Time-Out sitting on the stool against the wall just like Dennis, The Manace (sp?).

Shove their little butts into the bedroom and don’t worry a bit. Rule number 1, nobody crosses mother.

Of course - she could have run over, not run away.

Elly, you should have thought of that before making a meal he despised so much as to welcome such a “punishment”!

This set of panels is a rerun from earlyer this year.
My mom took me to jail in her fustration over something that I don’t remember doing. Thank god she didn’t have more kids to abuse.

From the look of Elly’s clothes, she’s had a LONG ROUGH DAY! Michael acting this way reminds me of my nephew!

Ah, well we know she does things right even if she doubts herself now. That’s why there are t-shirts that say: Because I’m the Mom!

Hey Burgundy2, I like your picture. Your other avatar expressed more attitude, but your current one shows a smile that dazzles.
