She wants a part time job so she can earn a bit of money. But I agree she should wait til the kids are older unless it’s an economic necessity. I don’t think it is since John’s a dentist. I agree with summerdog, lots of young mothers would be happy to “only” have to care for kids and a house.
Sometimes it’s just getting out and interacting with adults. After being with little kids 24/7 (been there done that) the need for adult contact is strong. Husbands don’t count. They usually are in their own world of work and don’t really understand yours. Fresh eyes and ears are always good.
I totally agree with Sugie. My son is 9 months old and I can’t wait to go back to work. I don’t need the money. I need the change of pace and something other than baby talk. Scary when you start looking forward to work as peace and quiet…
GuntotingLiberal i know right now it seems endless, but one day, in the blink of an eye, you’ll turn around and say “where’d the years go”? Enjoy it now because time does speed by! I’m getting ready to send my last one off into the world, so I know!

I suspect you’re thinking of US dentists–the Pattersons are Canucks (dealing with Provincial health plans, regulated fees…)
It’s not just about money. You lose yourself if all you are is MOM. Working PT out of the house she gets to keep her sanity and her sense of self. Some men just never get that.

Sounds like she wants a job, even part time, just for the chance of a rest.

Ha! Young (and not so young) mother’s are doing it ALL today. Kids and jobs, and sometimes without partners to help.

Summerdog: You say “HA!”. Think that’s kind of sad, not amusing.

It must be nice for the kids to be able to be with at least one parent most of the day. (Way more memories when they are older).
Elle, I predict you will own your own book store in the future! :-)

With all the work she does, she wants to see how much being a mother would pay on the open market salary wise, if I’m making sense!

even at minimum wage for all the jobs - john could never afford to pay for each and every job that elly does in the average day
