Maybe they’ll introduce a new character - like, oh I don’t know, some little red headed orphan with a dog!

We come to a fork in the road. Does he go after the map, or does he go after the Blue Circle? The latter is far more important (the map’s been around for years) but the map is way more fun. And I don’t think the BC is going to fall all that easily.

Can’t fault you on that well structured perspective, RayC

But I’m sure those “Villains” will be around as long as Maeder lives. I’m sure he well remembers Gould’s “Flattop” experience.

Sydney, I guess the FBI has more than that one guy. They could do both at once, and maybe that will happen. But where will the story focus for us? And why is not a SWAT team headed for the bank at this moment? I agree, we’re not going to lose the Blue Circle. They’re like Lex Luthor was to Superman and Moriarty to Holmes. And Flattop to Tracy?

A map? Rather obvious, but necessary I guess.

You do know, Ray C, that Moriarity only showed up in one story as a way for Doyle to kill off Holmes?

notbugme: No, I didn’t realize that. I think he mentions him in stories other than “The Final Problem” though. That’s probably where I got that notion of him appearing regularly. It’s been a long while, and my collection of Holmes stories doesn’t even include that last one. So I think I’m guilty of filling in blanks in my memory. Not the first time. Thanks for the correction.

Moriarty was the villain in a lot of the Holmes movies, and the line blurs between them and the books. I remember several of the Jeremy Brett-Grenada Television shows featured him as a villain as well. Now I’m going to have to go back and reread the books….

According to Wiki, Moriarty is a character in one other story set before “The Final Problem” but published afterward (The Valley of Fear), and mentioned nostalgically in 5 other later stories (The Empty House, The Norwood Builder,.The Missing Three Quarter, The Illustrious Client and His Last Bow).
