First Lyman appearance - August 7, 1978. Lyman was a main character in the early years, but he shows up less and less over time. He makes a brief appearance in April 1983, then vanishes from the strip.

And here we see Lyman’s first appearance!

This is Lyman’s first appearance but it’s temporarily.

I don’t think Lyman would have wanted to use Garfield’s sandbox.

For years, when fans would ask Jim Davis what ever happened to Lyman, his response was usually “Don’t look in Jon’s basement!”

Lyman was my favorite character… Too bad he never appears in the strip anymore.

In the January 22, 1976 strip, he says “Apartment” and not “Home”

Lyman is like Shermy in the Peanuts. He appears for a brief time, but quickly fazes out because of new characters and because Schulz claimed that “some characters just don’t seem to have enough personality to carry out ideas.”

“I’m hungry” says Lyman. “Stay away from my litterbox” says Garfield. What does Garfield think litterboxes are for?

Can’t wait to see if he uses the sandbox.

Appreciate Lyman while you can, because you’ll never see him again.
