that is a perfect dialogue!

Liz expected Jon to say: the flowers ARE great. But he said they “were” great - past tense, as in ‘they used to be great’.

Well, as Liz once said, the reason Garfield eats every plant in Jon’s house is because given the shape he’s in, it’s the only thing in his diet that can’t outrun him.
