I’ve always maintained it should be called something like “Louie and Friends” for months now. The maintenance of the pirate setting is farcical. If indeed the time of the pirate theme is past as the strip grows, then let it go. It doesn’t have to hang on far too long, like Garfield or Family Circus. Start a mouse or dog strip.

Hey Chip, I love your strip, but can’t you find a balance between the animals and the pirates. I am starting to miss them, also. BUT DON’T EVER GET RID OF ANY OF THE CHARACTERS!
