    @ Coffee-Turtle:

Patty and Peppermint Patty are different Characters. Charles Schultz started with 3 characters:

    Charlie BrownPattyShermy

2 days later, he added Snoopy. He slowly added more characters. At this point, the strip has 4 character. The next character to appear will be Violet Grey.

Shermy, Patty, and Violet will be reduced to backgroundcharacters in later years because they are bland:

Shermy and Patty were created as straight men (characters not reacting to the things funny things Charlie Brown does, thus making it funnier by playing it straight). Charles Schultz did not believe that they need personality.

Later, Charles Schulz found that straight men are more interesting if they have strong unique personalities. Let us look at the most famous straight man in the word of Peanuts:

    Linus Van Pelt:

Do not worry about Patty and Shermy. They will not die. They will simply disappear into the background. They will be seen, but seldom heard.

Unfortunately, this is a class, not a school board meeting, so that may not work very well.
