Charlie Brown: This druggist is awfully fussy..He won't let you look at the comic magazines unless you by one... Charlie Brown: Gee, The cover came off this one...I hardly jerked it! Charlie Brown: Those on the top row look pretty good... Charlie Brown: WHOOPS! Charlie Brown: He should sell these for half price...Who wants a magazine after it's been laying around on the floor? Charlie Brown: I guess I'll take this one... Charlie Brown: Bot, did he ever glare at me! He probably isn't feeling well...

I remember this particular strip; it was in a PEANUTS collection book I once owned when I was Charlie Brown’s age.

I grew up with the Hodder & Stoughton collections from the early 70’s. This is one of the earliest strips I remember.

This was a not-terribly exaggerated version of what you could expect to see on comics stands in the early 50s, before the notorious Senate hearings and the advent of the Comics Code Authority.
This is also the chronologically earliest strip that was published in the old Fawcett paperbacks.
