In these early strips, Charlie acts and has some of the same expressions that Calvin will have decades later. Waterson must have been a fan…….

I remember this particular strip; it was in a PEANUTS collection book I once owned when I was Charlie Brown’s age.

I grew up with the Hodder & Stoughton collections from the early 70’s. This is one of the earliest strips I remember.

This was a not-terribly exaggerated version of what you could expect to see on comics stands in the early 50s, before the notorious Senate hearings and the advent of the Comics Code Authority.

This is also the chronologically earliest strip that was published in the old Fawcett paperbacks.
