Lucy and Charlie Brown are sitting on the floor playing checkers. She exclaims,"A coup! A coup! A grand coup!" He replies,"Oh, Great Scott!"<BR><BR> She stands and continues,"It was a coup!" He replies,"You don't have to overdo it!" "It was not! It was luck!!"<BR><BR> She hits him over the head with the board.<BR><BR> He looks at the reader with the board over his head and grimaces. She walks off with her hands in the air exclaiming, "Another coup! Another grand coup!!"<BR><BR>

231 (August 22, 1952). Lucy is confusing checkers with the card game bridge, where a coup and grand coup are various sophisticated card plays. Charlie Brown doesn’t appear to know the difference either. But he soon learns to play (See p. 257, below).
