Welcome Linus, to the Peanuts comic strip

A baby brother was mentioned several weeks before, but here he is: Linus! (Always my favorite character.)

The debut appearance of the character who go on to become, perhaps, the strips resident philosopher and thumb-and-blanket addict, as well as Sally Brown’s so-called “Sweet Babboo.”

Linus makes his first appearance, but still no name yet. He has the half-circles next to the eyes of the family Van Pelt.

Originally, the semicircles next to the eyes of Lucy Van Pelt were just artifacts of the way Sparky drew her eyes in profile, but soon became the way he drew her eyes always and all other members of the family too.

Welcome Linus VanPelt to the strip

And introducing…

This is the first appearance of Linus van Pelt. A few months after Lucy’s introduction, she gains a baby brother. The famous “Peanuts” theme song was named after the two siblings.Another fun fact, Linus originated from a Schulz doodle of a boy with wild hair.

And now we get a first look at the strip’s best character.

Does Linus have some disease if he catches CB in age or is it CB who has the disease?

Maybe Linus is really stressed out as a kid (because of Lucy) and thats why he lost a lot of hair. Linus is best character!

This is exciting. I didn’t know this. On this day, Linus’s debut, I was -13 years old.

Linus’s first outing, and he’s put in an unsafe position, what with the boards and nails. Of course, not many people were reading Peanuts at the time, and safety concerns weren’t what they are today, so there were probably few if any complaints.
