Apparently Adam’s been thinking about this for a long time…the Nordiques haven’t existed for 16 years!

They’re now the Colorado Avalanche, not to be confused with the original Colorado Rockies, who are now the New Jersey Devils.

BTW, Clayton (and whoever writes this), ‘team’ is singular, so it’s “what would you name it?”

Good ‘un, celecca! … somebodyshort, “Leafs” is a far better name than “Wild” or the NBA’s “Heat”. Sheesh! … RCMinor, Wikipedia says ’ “The Coffee Achievers” was an advertising campaign launched by the National Coffee Association in the 1980s.’ It made no impression on me.

“Leafs” is dumb because it’s not the plural of “leaf”, and who would name their team after the third-person singular, present tense of the verb “to leaf (as through pages)”? Or after the family of Ryan Leaf? He’s not even a hockey player…

If I owned the Washington DC franchise for the NFL, I’d drop the “Redskins” (it’s LONG since time that was retired), and rename them “The United States Department of Football for the District of Columbia.” In the headlines, they’d be “The Feds”. They’d wear grey uniforms and helmets, with stripes of red tape.

(The “Coffee Achiever” ad campaign may be ancient, but it’s a fun term, and I still use it.)
