Ok, it looks like he got a carbon monoxide detector for Christmas, but never installed it, and died. Since it’s June, how come the body’s not rotted, and how did the mail get on the desk? I’m having a very hard time suspending disbelief on this one.

If you look at the picture, the translation of the latin means “I’ll do it tomorrow.” Still doesn’t explain how he died.

Oh, I get it. It’s “X”mas. You can tell by the little “x’s” in his eyes. Maybe since it’s summer, and his place is decked out in Christmas decorations, his name is “Leon”. Maybe…oh, forget it.

He delayed on everything…dirty dishes, taking down his Christmas stuff, his bills are late, and putting in his carbon monoxide dectector. He died in June, not Christmas, because he had to have changed the paper calendar over. thanks for explaining the latin - I would not have caught it all otherwise.

I dont think he got the detector for xmas, I think all the indicators (mail, picture, dirty dishes, xmas stuff still up) are that he is a procrastinator. If its June and he died at xmas, who’s been turning the calendar pages? (unless its form the PREVIOUS June!) I mean, why would he procrastinate on everything except turning the calendar pages? So, if he did indeed die of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is his fault because he procrastinates. HA HA HA HA so funny!

Taking precautions too late, like everything else, Cletus fails to change his shorts.

Glad I’m not the only one who can’t figure it out and I like this cartoon!

Thanks to the preceding comments, I think I’ve finally got it - the guy is a chronic procrastinator, and now he’s late for his own funeral!

It’s sad that I had to read the comments to understand this cartoon. The SADDER thing is that this guy’s house looks so much like mine (except for the illegible latin quote on the wall).

But why would he die in June? People don’t have their furnaces running then.

The date stamp from the security camera (upper right corner) would lead me to believe that he just hasn’t changed the calendar in five months.

Reading the comments and zooming in on the comic I think I might have a solution. Forget what day it is now. In the comic it is June (nice day, green grass, shorts) and he died probably that day. His habitual procrastination is his undoing: the CO-detector box says INSTALL TODAY in the red area (the punchline of the joke). Looks like he should have listened. GoComic’s low resolution ruins yet another comic.

Gas water heaters can also be a major source of CO poisoning

The general consensus seems to be: we get it (by now, anyway), it’s just…not funny. This day’s panel was a total miss, but I’ll forgive Mr. Hilburn this one, as I enjoy The AG almost daily. :-)
