KingRat, your Italian translation is literally correct. The English word “chiaroscuro” is defined by Merriam-Webster this way:
1: pictorial representation in terms of light and shade without regard to color
2 a: the arrangement or treatment of light and dark parts in a pictorial work of art b: the interplay or contrast of dissimilar qualities (as of mood or character)
3: a 16th century woodcut technique involving the use of several blocks to print different tones of the same color ; also : a print made by this technique
4: the interplay of light and shadow on or as if on a surface
5: the quality of being veiled or partly in shadow
The name is perfect for art represented in a black-and-white comic strip.

In the third panel, you can see Mr. Chiaro Scuro’s left eyelid. Of course he only sees things in black & white.
Yes - but that’s the first time - going back only a few days to his first appearance, his glasses were always opaque. His eye was sort of visible from the side, but barely - which is surprising, since the detail in the drawing for this strip is usually very good.

Did it also become a more conventional painting technique - with brushes, palette knives, etc.?
as far as his glasses are concerned for years I thought that Roy Orbison was wearing sunglasses, then I found out that he was very farsighted and his glasses were just magnifying his pupils (see the original video for pretty woman). Of course there were times that he was wearing shades.
