“NotNormanChubsyUbsy says: And “Mein Kampf” was just a book”.
That has to be one of the most insane things I have seen posted here. Equating “Gasoline Alley” to “Mien Kampf”, is, well, insane. Earl in no form or manner displays the traits that you have attributed to him. His manner of courtship perhaps differs from yours, and I am sure that had he presented her with his card and asked if he could call on her at home, your sensibilities would not be offended. Stop spewing your racist accusations, they are unwarranted and unwelcome.
How anyone can not see that portraying Earl as sex-obsessed, shiftless and lazy is racist just astounds me.
I have reported this strip to the NAACP and I hope they give the author hell!
Maybe I don’t see it that way because I have heard virtually the same lines addressed to me and I’m white and the guys were too!
I just thought that was the way a lot of guys try to make themselves known to women… but being a woman, what do I know?
Earl is not being portrayed in any such light. He’s working, how can that be lazy? He is simply taken with Gertie, how can that be sex-obsessed? Gertie’;s a smart, hard-working, and kind woman; I see this eventually working into a relationship. How can that be bad? Or maybe not. We’ll have to see. But if it does, if anyone is
familiar with Gertie at all, it is unlikely she would be fooled by a such
a shallow person if Earl was like that. From previous happenings in
the strip, Earl does not seem shallow at all.
Seeing offense where none is meant
only causes trouble unnecessarily.
In addition, being lazy, shiftless and sex-obsessed is not limited to any one race, nationallity, or
ethnic group. If one does portray
someone like that, it doesn’t mean it’s racist necessarily. And if one knows any thing about this author and his history with the strip, he simply wouldn’t do anything like that anyway.
Inserting race into everything just
keeps the whole issue alive and
accomplishes nothing except stir up trouble. This is
simply nonproductive and works
against everything that person
is supposedly for in the first
place.
Being persistent is also a postive
quality, in general, unless it leads to stubborness. How can that be bad?
Now that I’m a temporary free genius, I can look back at these good old days of GA, and the comments. Wow. Since they apparently deleted all the comments on the 20th, that may have been the high-water mark for insanity. On the other hand, it’s hard to imagine a day topping this one. Good times… gooood times.

Actually that’s not a bad line to use with a girl.

Gertie clearly believes in the hereafter, because she’s giving Bird a ride, even though she knows what he’s here after.

Yes, Gertie is clearly in the driver’s seat at this point. I suppose she has been from the beginning…

I read the comics for a laugh each day.
I haven’t been reading the comments very long, and after the BS today, and the last few days, I will stick strictly to the comics.

So true, Melany. Those are real benign compared to some I’ve heard. From white guys.
