Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling News of the Times Salvation Army Heads New Faith-Based Military In an effort to remake the U.S. military, President Bush has outsourced NATIONAL DEFENSE to the SALVATION ARMY. George W. Bush: This is a FAITH-BASED program with a history of GOOD WORK. And they've got generals and lieutenants and EVERYTHING! The Salvation Army can deliver defense services more efficiently than the federal government can. General: For example, we can keep gays or Muslims out with no messy red tape! The Salvation Army dismisses the notion that they lack the necessary toughness for combat. General: Some of the best fighters in history were faith-based. Look at the Crusades! Bush argues that faith-based national defense is not a new concept. George W. Bush: The "STAR WARS" program has ALWAYS been faith-based. The Salvation Army has big plans for its new $328 billion budget, including a newly reconfigured Pentagon. Does this plan run afoul of the constitutional separation of church and state? The newly outsourced faith-based SUPREME COURT doesn't think so.
