Tom the Dancing Bug by Ruben Bolling Max & Doug Reunited You probably don't remember them as the '90s comic strip duo that was heavy on self-reference and light on backstory. Max: What kind of animal are you? Doug: Why am I here with a baby? Their 1995 breakup was fueled as much by egos and failure as it was by excessive consumption of fruit candies. Max: Fine! Leave while we're on top of the comics world! Doug: Bag empty... need Skittles... Doug's solo act got him sporadic work as a comic character who refuses to say or do anything. Max's last failed attempt at a comeback was a song about his allegation that Paula Abdul once changed his diaper. Max: You were my special lady...but it was a lie... When you said you'd always keep my bottom dry MAX & DOUG: Would you reunite for one comic strip? GAP Max: ONE comic strip, but I'm not teaming up again! Doug: Okay, but I'm DONE with show business. I've gotten on with my life. REAL life. "Please" Put Cash In Tray Max & Doug Doug: Um...hi. Max: Hi. Doug: Uh...they're doing great stuff with C.G.I. these days... Max: Are you thinking feature film? Max: Hi, Morty? ... Max! Doug and I are BACK IN THE GAME! Doug: Tell him I'm off the Skittles!
