Dean: Hey, Heart! You inspired me to change my "look" too... Dean:...it's the "totally rad skateboarder dude" look. Heart: Well, Dean, if you were going for dorki-er, you succeeded. Dean: Yo...check the tude.
You could put me in an armani suit, oakley sunglasses, sitting in a porsche, and I’d still be a nerd in expensive clothes, sitting in an overpriced car.
I think baggy works on little kids because it’s not a statement; it’s just practicality, since they grow so fast. Unless you can afford a whole new wardrobe for your child every two months, it makes sense to buy new clothes that’ll be too big for quite a while, lest they too soon become too small…
gmartin, I was specifically referring on baggy clothes on little kids. I’ll admit it was a bit of a sideways jump, since Darkeforce had said "little kids like Dean*, and Dean here is certainly wearing his clothes as a “statement.” Although I don’t think Dean has “defiance” in mind, more like “copying what is regarded as ‘Rad.’”
Now that University of New Mexico football player who got arrested at the S.F. airport because he refused to pull up his sagging pants on the airplane (his beltline was below his buttocks) probably DID have “defiance” in mind, although all he effectively defied was common sense.
