Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for February 08, 1986
February 07, 1986
February 09, 1986
Transcript:
Calvin: Meek and mild-mannered Calvin ducks into a nearby closet and transforms himself into... Captain Napalm, protector of the American way! Endowed with superhuman powers, he quickly... Mommmmmmmm!
Calvin should read his C.S. Lewis“There was nothing Lucy liked so much as the smell and feel of fur. She immediately stepped into the wardrobe and got in among the coats and rubbed her face against them, leaving the door open, of course, because she knew that it is very foolish to shut oneself into any wardrobe” (or closet)
Interesting how originally, “Captain Napalm” was to be the name of Calvin’s superhero alter-ego that became Stupendous Man, by which time “Captain Napalm” became the name of a comic book hero Calvin reads about.

Heh Capt. Napalm: Protector of the American Way. I guess you can’t just go into any closet to transform from meek to superhuman.

Captain Napalm was a comic book in this strip that Calvin read. He never used Captain Napalm as an alter ego again.
