Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for August 04, 1986
Transcript:
Calvin: Look at that thing in the dirt! It must be a fossil! I wonder what peculiar animal this was. But it's not a bone. It must be some primitive hunting weapon or eating utensil for cave men. Maybe it had some religious function. Hobbes: This explains why your clothes stay on the floor.

With that hook on the one side, maybe it was a primitive form of the shepherd’s crook?

Its scientific term is called a “hangar.” Must be some kind of ancient fossil.
