Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for July 03, 1987
July 02, 1987
July 04, 1987
Transcript:
Hobbes: Tomorrow is Independence Day. The Declaration of Independence says everyone is created equal and is entitled to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. Calvin: Oh. So when does Paul Revere ride through town and give us out presents?
Once, in elementary school, I remember a teacher cutting in line at the cafeteria. This didn’t seem fair to me and we had just had a lesson about the constitution, so I pointed out to him that “all men are created equal”. He responded, “Yes, but some of us are more equal than others”. For better or worse, never forgot that.
