Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for September 15, 1988
Transcript:
Calvin: So long, Mom. Hobbes and I are going to Mars to live. Earth is too polluted. Mom: Have a good time. Calvin: Say goodbye to Dad for us. If I can find an interplanetary post office, I'll write you once in a while and... Mom: Calvin, don't stand there with the door open. You're letting in bugs. Either stay in or go outside. Hobbes: She didn't seem too choked up about us going did she? Calvin: We should've left a long time ago.

It’s almost like she doesn’t believe that he’s going to Mars.

It is of a bit dangerous thing to show a lack of parental care when your kid is pretty much off to what might not be a new planet, but what might somewhere in between.

My kids ran away. I had a Lovely afternoon. I sat in the living room drinking tea. Watching as they peaked out of the woods across the street. LOL Just found out, 30 years later, they are still miffed I didn’t go searching for them.
So, I think Mom has a pretty good idea were “mars” is. Just saying.
