Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for August 04, 1989
Transcript:
Calvin: Hey, Mom, did you know that gravity in outer space works as if space was a soft, flat surface? It's true. Heaby matter, like planets, sinks into the surface and anything passing by, like light, will "roll" toward the dip in space made by the planet. Light is actually deflected by gravity! Amazing, huh? And speaking of gravity, I dropped a pitcher of lemonade on the kitchen floor when my roller skates slipped. Mom: How can kids know so much an still be so dumb?

How does he know that, and still do something dumb like being on roller skates in the house?

Do not confuse intelligence, education and wisdom. All separate things; anyone can have any combination thereof. And wisdom can only be gained through experience—that is, making errors.

Wait, error up there; “just” should be “will”.

Knowledge is crossing the street and seeing a car come towards you.
Understanding is knowing that that car will hit you if you don’t move.
Wisdom is moving away from that car.

No, wisdom is not going into the street in the first place because you looked both ways and saw the car coming.

People tend to meander around the point, even when it’s urgent.
