you knoiw the bad part is after I was let go of my Job I was at for 10 years and I had to work briefly for Wal*Mart doing stock one of my old work mates told me the same thing well sort of she said to me “See Obama’s economic plan is working you’ve allready got a job!”
Scott Roberts and John Zakour: I would agree w/ Quayle. Yes there are jobs what one would call ‘starters’, Min. wage. As you say, people want to walk in to a Big Money Job. I worked for years and now the Government raised starting wage towhere someone could walk in off the street and be paid almost the same as me, and i’ve been here for years, and They’re STILL not Interested.
I think a lot of people criticized Quayle because he was missing the larger issue. It wasn’t about kids, in or out of school, getting their first job. It was about people who had families to support, and mortgages to pay. Hard to do that in jobs that require wearing a paper hat.
And since the cost of living seems to rise far faster than, and all out of proportion to, income, it becomes harder and harder to maintain the kind of lifestyle that previous generations could expect as a given.

And who remembers when Dan Quayle denied there was an unemployment problem- because he saw a ‘help wanted’ in a Burger King?

The bottom line is that there are always jobs to be had, just a lot of people don’t want to do those jobs.

And they’re all proud and they give themselves raises.
