Transcript:
Calvin: Do you support the free expression of ideas in our society? Dad: Sure. That's first on our bill of rights. Calvin: So you would be against censorship and the suppression of ideas you found distasteful. Dad: Right. You've got to take the bad with the good. Calvin: So you wouldn't object to me being exposed to art, movies or music that some people think is offensive and shocking, right? Dad: Ok, first let me explain about our responsibility to be culturally educated and able to make critical distinctions about. Calvin: You're stallllling!

This is the old argument that, to know and accept goodness, we must be exposed to evil and sin. It was wrong from the beginning, and is still wrong.

The freedoms that Calvin speaks of are not meant for children, because they are no mature enough to accept the responsibility for them, nor are their brains developed enough to fully comprehend them. That is the parents’ job. To censor what young, impressionable minds are exposed to.
