Transcript:
Calvin: I stand firm in my belief of what's right! I refuse to compromise my principles! I don't need to compromise my principles, because they don't have the slightest bearing on what happens to me anyway.
Bill Watterson wrote this comic while he was in the middle of the fight with his syndicate over the licensing of Calvin and Hobbes. He was mocking how he could make a big stand about his refusal to compromise, but it wouldn’t have the slightest bearing because, at the time, the syndicate held all the power in their contract.

She’s willing to compromise. Calvin can say what he wants—so long as he takes his bath.
