Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for November 28, 1990

Calvin: Mom, you now the sandwich you packed for me today? Well, by lunch time, the jelly had soaked into the bread. That grosses me out. So tomorrow, I'd like the jelly put in a separate container with a knife, so I can spread the jelly at the last possible moment before I eat the sandwich. Also, you keep using bread from the middle of the loaf. I only like those pieces for toast. For sandwiches, I want only the end pieces, because those don't absorb as much jelly, got it? Doggone it she did it again!

This is a completely ridiculous idea. Everyone knows you spread jelly with a SPOON. :)

No, no, that’s why you make a double-decker sandwich with 3 pieces of bread. You put the jelly on both sides of the middle piece, so that piece will absorb the jelly, and then the peanut butter goes on the outer two pieces.-———————————————————————————————————————-And btw, I use a knife for the jelly. Sometimes use a spoon for the pb, though.

I’m sorta ocd so I first spread the pb with a knife, scoop out the jelly with a spoon, and then spread the jelly using the aforementioned knife. That way no pb ends up in the jelly jar, and vice versa.

If you butter the side you’re putting the jelly on it doesn’t soak into the bread.

Yuck! Who asks for the end pieces of a bread loaf? But I hear those are healthier, so Calvin is better off with that preference
