    I’ve had to do this many times. As Elizabeth Zimmerman said, as long as you keep your mouth closed and your eyes downcast, you can think what you like and no one will be the wiser. When talking to someone whose company I don’t care for, I tend to ask them about their family and activities. They prefer to talk about themselves, anyway.

    Agnes most wise. I am fortunate at work. A coworker will say I love you, but…. when I have begun a rant. I immediately shut my mouth. Saves a lot of time.

    It also works for couples counseling. “Yes, dear” has saved a lot of marriages, when used liberally.
