I grew up out in the country in Alabama. When I was in high school (1960-64) our bus drivers were students at the school – all of them – Boys that were Juniors and Seniors. While we had the regular mix from wimps to the ‘mean Gene’ types, no one ever messed with our drivers. I guess that they would have to walk to school, and some lived many, many miles away. The drivers took their buses home with them at night.
