    whmlll I’ve heard it called both names, but the borad game my parents bought us kids many, many years ago was called snakes and ladders. If you got the snake you had to slither down a couple of levels or more.

    I believe it’s a difference of country of manufacture. This strip is British and I have only ever heard the Brit’s call it Snakes and Ladders. Shutes and Ladders is USA. But I could be completely wrong.

    Well, I grew up in Canada. That might explain it. I never heard of Chutes & Ladders until I moved down to the States.

    Magasek is actually completely correct. The original version is from India. Both the original and British versions have always had snakes instead of chutes.
