Well, Petey’s theory is that there used to be twelve Little Shirleys, but they were fused together in a freak nuclear accident, so there’s precedent for the idea.

I could stare at these drawings all day (if the monitor didn’t burn my eyes out). Thank god for the books!

I can’t remember- in previous appearances, was Big Shirley huge when grownups were in the panel? Or is this like C&H, when others are around, the tiger is clearly just a stuffed toy? IOW, the dog looks huge to Alice, but not to anyone else?
