Alice: Then, after Thanksgiving dinner, Petey played "Turkey through a Straw" on his oboe and Grandma fell asleep. Another Thanksgiving's been and gone. What could happen next? Dill + Alice: CHRISTMAS! Petey: "Turkey in the Straw"!
a friend of mine’s little brother once called the national anthem the star strangled banana. he was four or five at the time.
just wanted to pass it along…
I think “Turkey in the Straw” (or even “Turkey through a straw” is best played on the traditional fiddle – not an oboe. But maybe someone can write a special Thanksgiving piece for oboe for Petey to play next year instead!

After the second or third day of Thanksgiving leftovers, we put the food in a cuisinart. So we really do have turkey through a straw.

I love the heads in the last panel - its like the way they sing in the Charlie Brown TV specials - all mouths with noses, no real faces.
