And she’ll go out all confident in her worldly-wisdom, and come home in a year or two with a baby for her parents to help her raise. It’s a cliche that I’ve seen happen far too many times to find it amusing any more.

Girls raised by overprotective, strict parents often grow up without having learned how to make good decisions for themselves, unfortunately.

I have made many bad decisions, but at least none that ruined my life. My parents were controlling and strict but mostly just always wanted a son and he was born in 1940 (better than me in 1937) so he was totally spoiled and I had to forgo any chance of studying to be an architect because Dad said it was “way too competative for a woman”. And my Bro took my lovely slide rule with it’s leather case and wasted a college education! He went on to study law on the dime of his wife (and divorced her) and then joined Dad’s real estate firm and screwed them and so forth finally dying of brain cancer after his flashy GF dumped him in a nursing home. I hope it was worse even than the one where he placed or mother. I tried to convince her to change POA to one of my older sons (I’m not a money person) and my sons are honest and good and both of those graduated with honors and went on to advanced degrees.
