I some dialects “animals” applies only to mammals. To others of us any “thing” that is not vegetable or mineral is animal. Yet others believe animals are people & object to calling them “things.”“Clean” animals must have an even number of toes per foot.
I don’t find it annoying, just interesting. I am not a literalist. I believe in the Big Bang, and evolution, and lots of technical stuff.
I think there was a flood, somewhere, and that there were some animals and people who survived in an ark (sorry about the misspelling on my first post) of sorts. I suspect that the flood covered a large area, but seriously doubt that it covered the earth. This happening became the root of the story of Noah.
As for food? They stocked food for the animals they loaded. It was, by most accounts, a rather large boat. Stores for a month and 10 days should have been manageable… with the occasional hungry day.
__Penguins? No need, penguins live quite easily at sea… fish, whales, dolphins? Not Noah’s problem. I don’t think elephants and giraffes were either, though they do look cute on the toys.
I believe that “all flesh” simply means the critters in his locality, and that the flood was a local, but widespread, event. And that “every creeping thing of the earth” means “everything that creeps on the ground”.
Humans are animals (they are not vegetable or mineral). Why bother taking any birds? They could fly and, when tired, simply land on the roof of the ark.

Uh, actually, all of the “clean” animals went by sevens. And there are a lot of clean animals.

Did you really just say that birds are not animals? What are they, then, plants? Jeez.
