But can you actually discover somewhere where you’ve always lived? And who says Columbus discovered it first. If Columbus didn’t know the americas existed, he’d still discover them even if he was the millionth person to discover them.

Didn’t Leif Erikson stumble upon it at least half a millennium before Columbus? It’s a popular belief, but I’m puzzled.
