i remember reading a story in one of Ron Luciano’s books (may have been “Strike Two” or “Remembrance of Swings Past”) about a minor league umpire who decided a close play by having a “do over.” as Ron wrote his books in the early/mid 80’s after his umpiring career ended, this would likely have happened in the late 60’s or early 70’s. as an umpire, he was one of the game’s characters, and died too soon. RIP
