    Pernickety – British, first used around 1800. Persnickety – American, first used around 1900. We almost speak the same language.

    I watched a TV program that featured

    JRR Tolkien the other night .Tolkien was Oxford trained

    and, we know he had a pretty good grasp of the English

    language from his books. He spoke at length about

    how the “Hobbit” and the trilogy “Lord Of The Rings” came

    to be. After 5 minutes I switched channels .I couldn’t

    understand a word he said.
