That reminds me, though – I didn’t say anything on yesterday’s strip cos I only had a few minutes and couldn’t find anything to add.
I thought the strip was funny, though, and the joke “obvious.”
Coming home tonight, I discovered that nobody seemed to share my take.
It’s a parody, as No. 9 pointed out, of a very famous Charles Ebbets photograph of a long row of 1930’s workmen eating lunch high in the sky on a girder.
No safety gear whatsoever, soft caps ….. some possibly terrified but practicing studied nonchalance.
In Guy and rOdd’s version one of them finally looks over his shoulder and realises they could have been eating in the lunchroom all along.
That, to me, was the point — and it cracked me up.
Susan-I didn’t see the tic-tac-toe either, and with yesterday’s strip, I thought the poster was the lunchroom that future people would enjoy as a result of their labor. And I never liked lunchrooms and shared refrigerators-I take only the food I plan to eat, so I object when some is taken.
@Night-gaunt- Back in my day, mothers needed some sleep to recover from hours of childbirth so that was fine. I think things have not changed that much. I had 4 children in the 5 years following my marriage in 1959.

Why are they so puzzled? They both win either way… It just depends on who goes first.

This would be a puzzler if doubling down with fraternal or identical twins.

Yesterdays Cartoon" Is this the Joke? They would rather sit out on a grinder than the platform with tables? WHY?
