Cul de Sac by Richard Thompson for October 09, 2011
Transcript:
Alice: I don't remember this toy at all. Is it a new old toy? Dill: Wait - I know that truck! It used to be in the sandbox at the big playground! It must be one of those toys that lie outside, in the wild, off the grid, with no real home of permanent owner. They migrate from park to playground to schoolyard, often crossing great distances. Alice: How'd you know all this? Dill: I saw it on a TV nature show called "Silly Migration: Feral Toys of the North American Playgrounds."

I must have missed that TV nature show. Maybe it hasn’t played in my universe yet….Are feral toy trucks dangerous? What should I do if I see one migrating across my yard?

Ideally, Sisyphos, nothing. The trucks are more afraid of you than you are of them.

I love the first panel, with its marvelous, detailed depiction of the school, the usual children, and – is that Mr. Otterloop’s car?

Looks like a Tonka* to me.

nancyroy2 about 13 years ago
…yes i’ve used them a lot… but it’s very tricky because kids have elephant memories when it comes to toys – “Mom… where’s elephant with the purple hat and guitar? It’s missing!!!!”
cleokaya about 13 years ago
Looks like it’s gonna keep on truckin’.

@RC - can’t please all the people all the time

@RC… Why would you even bother to comment ? is it for the attention ? It is not like we are debating this comic. Either you like it or you don’t. if you don’t just try a different comic and please just hit the delete button.Today’s strip was a hoot !

I thought the strip was wonderful. We had a huge sandbox when I was a kid, and I’d often find toys, and even kids, I did not recognize, in it. My mother didn’t mind- she’d rather have strays in her backyard, versus having to hunt all of us down. In today’s world, my family would probably be cited for harboring an attractive nuisance, and be required to put a fence around it or something.

Pay no attention to RCMinor (if he ever becomes RCMajor, perhaps he’ll have developed some discernment). Yeah, I wish that more people appreciated the peculiar little treasure that is “Cul de Sac”, but then I remember that “Garfield” is the most popular comic strip being produced today…

RC Minor- de Gustibus! I love the art which is actually hand drawn per my knowledge and the kids here have their own marvelous universe. I especially love that Alice likes to dance on a sewer cover and Petey is so neurotic. It is all in good fun!

If RCMinor is not married with children, as I am not, then he must have a problem reaching his inner child. I may not have children, but I do think this strip brings back so many childhood memories.

Thanks for the laugh. I needed that.

I love the truck rolling off at the end. Possessed toys are fun.

LOL I have a bicycle that I suspect is part of a similar silly migration… I am still hoping 34 years later that it may come back…;)
