Not only that. Comics like novels and other forms of art, reflect the social and political views of the times they were produced in. Thats why I like to read things that have been reprinted. In the 1920’s we had comics like Magnet and gem which were reprinted in book form some years back. It was fascinating to see what was important to people back then and the outlook they had. Old Andy Capp cartoons are the same as are Mutt & Jeff etc. Think I’ll take up a university course in comic history.
Thank you POI for reminding how blest we are. Comics in our newspapers, clowns in the Congress, buffoons in the white house cabinet, and Charlie Sheen and similar sitcoms on our Tv. And then we have cartoon fantasies like Avatar in the theaters. Classical music is dying as Rap takes over. Bookshelves and Kindles fill up with trash about Vampires instead of the classics. Feel good sermons replace serious talks from our clergy. And then we wonder why China passes us by as the worlds successful nation. One day the Chinese will grow as fat and lazy like we already are, and then who will man the factories to make the products we all need?
This strip was one of my earliest influences. My lead character Charmy has a little Andy in him. So glad I can read this classic again thanks to GoComics!!!!

I have discovered that people who do not read the comics have a real poor personality and outlook on life.

To figure that out, you need only read the stupidity (from both left and right) that presents itself daily in comments on the news on the web.
