Miss Bliss: Today we're doing a special summer memories edition of sharing time! Our first sharer is Beni! Beni: Hi, kids! This summer I did a lot of things for the first time and I'd like to share them - this summer I got a bee sting on my elbow and poison ivy on both knees and I hit my thumb with a hammer, all for the first time! Kevin: I got my head stuck in my t-shirt, but it wasn't the first time! Miss Bliss: Kevin! Wait your turn!

No bragging about your bucket head out of turn, please.

Beni! That was certainly a…err, MEMORABLE summer of firsts! Kevin, what else would one expect of an ol’ buckethead?!

I’ve never been stung by a bee,

Ever been bit by a dead bee?
Beni’s not proud of being accidentprone, those are all simply new experiences that he finds fascinating. But when he hit his thumb with a hammer, I wonder whether he said a few new words for the first time…

I say Kevin needs to share the story of the stroller and seeing Alice at the grocery store!

Never loan Kevin your sweater. He’s got a future as a middle lineman though. Beni’s related to Tim “The Toolman” Taylor.

Eldo, I put movie and TV themes in a somewhat different category, because in my mind they’re tied to the context of the movie or show. The two you’ve mentioned are, in fact, themes I like. The one piece of music that springs to mind for me that is inarguably jazz but makes me instantly happy nonetheless is Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy”, because it fits “Peanuts” so well. But if it were called simply “Composition No. 22 for Piano”, and I heard it without context, I’d probably think differently about it.
Likewise, an instrumental passage within a song (limiting “song” to something that can actually be sung) is a different matter, but it can still be carried too far. The longer it gets, the less patience I have with it. There are some exceptions here, too, but “Roundabout” isn’t one of them (“Layla” most definitely IS).
On the whole, I’d have to say that I prefer Rock and Roll without vocals to Jazz with vocals, as a general rule.

“Personally, that ‘bit’ makes my Hair stand on end….and I’m no Actor.”
Eldo, was that a David Garrick reference? When Garrick played Hamlet (ca. 1775), he had a wig made that would literally pop up straight into the air “like quills upon the fretful porpentine” upon his first sight of the Ghost. It sounds cheesy now, but it was apparently VERY effective in perfromance…

Eldo, I have no idea what conversation I’m butting in to, but I’m with you on Roundabout. And, at least once every summer, I go out on the deck under a big maple tree at sunset, put on the headphones, play the album Close To The Edge… and drift off into musical heaven. (Seasons will pass you by, I get up, I get down… And you and I….)

Thanks, fkadw. I didn’t bother to look it up. But I remember it as “bit”, and I actually like it better that way…
