This is a variation on an old joke about a man that divorced his 40-year old wife to marry two 20-year olds. Was a disaster when he found he wasn’t wired for 2-20.
This joke originated in the days when REA was first wiring the country, and only ran two wires into houses, ie for 110Vac only. But then some appliances (stoves) came out that required 220Vac – but people couldn’t buy and use them unless the house was rewired with three wires for the 220 Vac. (In future, we may see houses wired with four wires for 3-phase for smaller and more efficient motors) Progress.
