Shocking luck! Melvin Roberts of Seneca, SC, USA, survived 6 lightning strikes! Micronecta Scholtzi, a 2 millimeter long bug, communicates with sounds up to 99.2 decibels! Relative to body size, it is the loudest animal on the planet! The grizzly bear is the official state animal California and appears on California's flag, but it has been extinct in the state since 1922!

One usually associates “extinct” with an entire species. I think the author should have used the term “not found in California” instead.

A species becomes extinct when the last existing member of that species dies. The grizzly was simply pushed out of California , not made extinct.

I read about a woman getting struck by lightning so many times that whenever there is a lightning storm, she runs into a special lightning proof room built for her.

John Denver once sang a cute little song about a grizzly bear in the Rocky Mountains. You can watch it on Youtube. It’s just called: Grizzly Bear. However, they’re also the meanest, fiercest bears you ever seen!

Regarding the word “extinct,” I need to point out that the wording was very specific “extinct in the state.” That is, the former population of that specific geographical area has all died out. That says nothing about other populations elsewhere, and therefore is perfectly accurate, unless there are undocumented survivors, as in the rumor Zyreenesque mentions.
