Not to mention that the Atlanta Braves had an even worse collapse (I believe up 10.5 games over the Cardinals) and you NEVER here about it anymore because the Red Sox had a similar collapse and are in a “major” market that the national news fixated on. The Braves must be happy that they aren’t the ones who are under the spotlight like this (at least in this particular situation).
The Braves collapsed, just like the Red Sox, but the Braves handled their debacle in a classy way. The Red Sox bigshots acted like whiny losers, blaming everyone in sight. The Red Sox used to have class, but now they are just as bad as the Yankees.
Also, technically the Braves’ collapse wasn’t as bad. Yes, the Cards were one game further behind than the Rays, but that was before September 1st. The Rays’ comeback was the largest deficit overcome at the start of September, which is when the “traditional” measurement is started.
